CCEH Partners with Paddington™ to Launch be homeful Campaign to End Family Homelessness in Connecticut

Hartford, CT (Dec. 1, 2014)This holiday season, the Connecticut Coalition to End Homelessness has partnered with everyone’s favorite bear Paddington to launch be homeful, a campaign designed to help families on the brink of homelessness. Paddington, having experienced homelessness himself, is the perfect Ambassador to help raise awareness for this often overlooked cause.

In Connecticut, there are more than 1,300 homeless families. While shelters are full, there is currently no major source of funding to keep struggling families from slipping into homelessness in times of crisis. By making funds available to keep families in the comfort of home, we can help break the cycle of homelessness that can carry forward across generations.

Connecticut is leading the nation in the creation of programs and systems that are proven to not only find families homes, but to keep those on the brink of homelessness safe. The approach CCEH is piloting has been proven already to work in small cities like New London, Conn., where 300 families were kept in homes. Funds raised will help families on the brink of homelessness by offering resources for rental assistance, security deposits, furniture, moving expenses, or car repairs.

“This is an incredible opportunity for CCEH to partner with Paddington on this groundbreaking new initiative,” said Lisa Tepper Bates, executive director of CCEH. “Paddington’s own story and comforting presence can go a long way towards removing much of the stigma for families experiencing homelessness and help us bring in members of the community who until now may have shied away from the issue.”

“Utilizing the great programs that Connecticut shelters are already using to keep families out of homelessness, and by partnering with Paddington, this will hopefully allow us to create a program that other states across the country can adopt and adapt. We see this as a major and exciting next step in our goal to end homelessness in America.”

The be homeful website (www.behomeful.org) is launching in advance of the Paddington movie, being released by  The Weinstein Company in the United States on Jan. 16, 2015. This website will provide visitors with tools to learn, teach, take action, and most importantly raise funds to provide direct relief to families in need. You can also follow be homeful on Facebook (www.facebook.com/behomeful) and Twitter (twitter.com/behomeful).

Additional promotions benefitting be homeful are in the works including a January premiere benefit screening of the upcoming movie Paddington co-sponsored by the Avon Theatre in Stamford. More details on promotions will be forthcoming.
