Paddington breaks Studiocanal record!

STUDIOCANAL CELEBRATES BIGGEST EVER HOME ENTERTAINMENT BOW WITH

PADDINGTON

 OVER 1 MILLION SALES

London, Thursday 27 August. STUDIOCANAL celebrates the company's biggest ever home entertainment bow with PADDINGTON, fully financed by the studio in partnership with Heyday Films, PADDINGTON has sold over 1 million units of the DVD and Blu-ray combined according to the British Video Association. PADDINGTON is the first title released in 2015 to do so and the studio's fastest selling title to date.

Writer/Director Paul King comments "Paddington came to London hoping to find a warm welcome and a loving home. It's beyond all our wildest dreams that his story has found its way into a million homes around the country. It was a labour of love to bring it to the screen and we're so pleased it has had such a generous response."

Karen Jankel, Managing Director of Paddington and Company & Michael Bond's daughter is "Absolutely delighted to hear the news that over one million copies of PADDINGTON have been sold on DVD and Blu-ray.  Whilst it was wonderful to read the fantastic reviews when the film was first released it's particularly lovely to know how many people so enjoyed it that they wanted to be able to watch it again."

The politest bear from Peru continues to break UK records for STUDIOCANAL following a £37,878,025 million theatrical box office haul. The bear has also enjoyed huge success overseas, with the global box office currently standing at $263 million - with Japan still to release the film in early 2016 - making PADDINGTON the most successful non-Studio family film ever.

STUDIOCANAL UK CEO Danny Perkins adds "We have had the most wonderful experience with Paddington and have tried our best to look after this very special bear and fantastic film. To see Paddington embraced by UK cinema audiences and now welcomed into more than a million homes is truly awe inspiring."

PADDINGTON is based on the best-selling and internationally adored series of children's stories by Michael Bond from an original screenplay by Paul King following the comic misadventures of a young Peruvian bear who travels to London in search of a home. PADDINGTON is directed by the twice BAFTA nominated King (Bunny and the Bull) and produced by multiple award-winning David Heyman (Gravity, the Harry Potter series).

Beyond UK audiences, DVD sales and critical acclaim PADDINGTON also met with creator Michael Bond's approval:

"I came, I saw, I was conquered, for it was a delight from start to finish. It is what I would call a 'do you remember film' because instead of coming back down to earth immediately you leave the cinema, there are so many beautifully handled little gems scattered around you can't wait to relive them with others of like mind. It is also a film that is engaging on many levels for in going to Paddington's rescue the Brown family have cause to take stock of their own relationships, and in one way and another emerge all the better for doing so. I can't wait to see it again..."

As the biggest and best family film of the year, PADDINGTON is expected to dominate the Christmas retail market as his extraordinary journey continues.  A Limited Edition release featuring 3D sleeve artwork will be available on DVD on October 12th.
