The Copyrights Group are pleased to announce a Horrible Histories partnership with top mediaeval attraction, Warwick Castle, to create a ‘horrible’ themed trail. Fans of Terry Deary’s bestselling wicked, weird and woeful books will be able to take the ‘horrible’ trail around the Castle, learning all about the measly Middle Ages, using a specially produced kids’ guide in easy-to-use mini-map form. The kids’ guide has had direct input from Terry Deary himself.
Nicholas Durbridge, CEO of The Copyrights Group said:
“The Horrible Histories partnership with Warwick Castle is a perfect brand match. As a brand extension it works well as it engages, entertains and allows children to experience the brand first hand within a real historic context.”
Lisa Edwards, Licensed Properties Editorial Director at Scholastic Children's Books, said: “We're very excited to be working with Warwick Castle, linking Horrible Histories with this major national heritage site. It is a perfect partnership.”
Warwick Castle plans to apply a liberal dose of tongue-in-cheek grossness to help enliven the rich mediaeval history of one Europe’s most impressive castles. Topics covered will range from the terrible tortures and potty punishments (see my email) dished out in the Castle’s dingy dungeon, to the chivalric code of the nasty knights who pitched against each other in the jousting tournaments at one of England’s original official sites and the ruthless raw efficiency of some of the whopping weapons of mediaeval warfare – including the giant Warwick Castle trebuchet. (Warwick may need to reword this, based on Terry’s new text for the map). Children will also be able to learn about the architecture of a mediaeval castle complete with murder holes, torture chamber and garderobes (middle age toilets!) aplenty.
Jo Biggs, Project Manager at Warwick Castle stated:
“The phenomenal success of Horrible Histories supports our experience of engaging children in history. They simply love the disgusting parts and the more gross the facts the more interested they are. We really try to add a sense of humour to all the live action events and entertainment we run throughout the year and Horrible Histories is a perfect complement to that, adding fun to the drama and excitement of the incredible stories we have to tell.”
The map will be available free to all children visiting from May half-term onwards and there will also be special live-action events featuring ferocious fighting knights, the terrible trebuchet and the bloody bowman over this period.
