Father Christmas™
Background
Blooming Christmas here again!
Father Christmas is a unique and unforgettable representation of a classic character by Raymond Briggs, the creator of The Snowman. Hamish Hamilton first published his story of Father Christmas’ longest night in 1973 and, in 1975, Raymond Briggs filled us in with what Father Christmas does the other 364 days of the year in the book Father Christmas Goes on Holiday.
The charming illustrations in the book were translated into film by Blooming Productions in 1991, with Mel Smith voicing a wonderfully grumpy Father Christmas. Now a seasonal classic in both video / DVD and Channel 4 broadcast, Raymond Briggs’ Father Christmas is the Christmas icon enjoying awareness and approval across the whole family.
