Introduction
Cicely Mary Barker is best known for her popular Flower Fairies books published by Frederick Warne which have sold more than 6 million copies iin the last decade.
During the 1920s and 1930s Cicely designed Christmas cards for US publisher Barton Cotton and, following sales in excess of 45,000, The Girl's Friendly Society commissioned a card from her virtually every year for almost 20 years.
The combination of charm and skilled draughtsmanship in Cicely’s work has captivated generations. Frederick Warne & Co sell many thousands of the collections of prayers, hymns and bible stories she has illustrated.
Just as Cicely’s Flower Fairies are regarded to be the definitive fairies, her religious work most closely matches a universal and timeless vision of Christian imagery.
